Martial Arts Classes for Adults!

By Hope Morgan, 4th dan

Most adults can easily identify the key components of a healthy lifestyle and can list various factors that contribute to personal health and wellness. Even so, many still constantly struggle in applying that knowledge to their individual selves and are left wondering how they can rise to the challenge of leading a healthier life. Adult martial arts provides the perfect solution for people looking to achieve those goals. The Colorado Taekwondo Institute offers programs specifically tailored for adult training and the benefits of participation are countless.

Taekwondo, unlike many other sports, truly is for all ages. Adults at all different fitness and skill levels join our school and quickly find it to be a great fit. Regardless of the multitude of differences in individuals, everyone can find benefits in adult martial arts that extend far beyond learning traditional and effective self-defense techniques. Some of them are discussed below:

Total Body Workout
The Colorado Taekwondo Institute features workouts that encompass all five components of health related fitness - cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. We target all areas of body fitness allowing adults to improve various aspects of their physical health.

Teaches Discipline and Focus
We typically associate the learning of focus and discipline with younger children, but adults have much to learn as well. In our modern world of constant distractions and chaos, they are two of the most valued character traits. We teach concentration through our repetition of movement, positive reinforcement, structural classes and rules, and challenging goals. The techniques you learn to better improve your focus and discipline can easily be transferred into your everyday work, social, and home lives.

Increases Self-Confidence
Studies show a strong correlation between adults with a higher level of self-esteem and career advancement, success in relationships, and overall productivity. The adult martial arts program at the Colorado Taekwondo Institute continually encourages you throughout your training and instructs you in methods of facing your fear, limiting self-doubt, and building a positive self-assured attitude.

Relieves Stress
All adults experience stress on some level at some point and science has proven that high stress levels are linked to heart attack, heart disease, and stroke. Taekwondo offers a physical outlet for built up stress. In addition, CTI’s program emphasizes the development of skills to help you calm your nerves and positively direct your focus both inside and outside of class.

Individualized Training
We welcome students of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Our instructors are dedicated to making your training a positive experience for you. They understand all students have a variety of strengths and weaknesses and are devoted to challenging you to your best. Students progress at their own pace and receive instruction designed to make them better as an individual martial artist.

Fit for the Whole Family
More often than not, parents sit on the sidelines while their children are at practice. The Colorado Taekwondo Institute has a host of families currently enrolled. Not only do the martial arts reap many benefits for the children, but parents, grandparents, uncles, and aunts can be there to experience it right along with them. They can provide support and understanding and serve as valued motivation. Our taekwondo programs are armed with the ideal way of creating quality time between you and your family in a constructive and healthy way.

The above points only scratch the surface of the benefits our adult martial arts program offers. The training is incredibly accessible and we hope you consider classes as your next fitness undertaking. You’ll experience the rewards immediately!

Martial Arts and Modesty

By Carol Wilsey, orange belt

Confidence is a great quality, but bragging is not. Being modest about one's skills and talents is not a lack of confidence. It is a lack of bragging. A person can be confident and still walk humbly.

A person that talks overly about their accomplishments can be very off-putting, or even make others feel insecure. A good leader will build up team members, not laud themselves and make their team feel inferior or inadequate.

A modest person will more likely make friends easily because they don't make people feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. They will make a better supervisor at work because they will use their words to encourage their co-workers rather than bragging about themselves. They will be more enjoyable to spend time with than a person that talks overly about their accomplishments.

It can be a fine line between bragging and celebrating accomplishments. I think it is good for people to share their victories with their friends and loved ones, but not to make a huge deal of them to the exclusion of others, or in a way that makes people feel uncomfortable or bad. For example, I recently broke my first board at my orange belt test. My husband and other family members were really excited to hear about it. We all love to hear about each others' successes to cheer each other on, not to one-up each other."

CTI Martial Arts: Conifer Campus

A picture of the front of the Conifer martial arts school
Are you interested in starting martial arts in the Conifer, Colorado area? Martial arts spans a variety of origins focusing on self-defense and attack. Whether it's judo, jiu jitsu, karate, or kung fu, martial arts have the ability to physically, mentally, and spiritually impact students of all ages. As it ties in several countries’ cultures into its practice, martial arts can be enjoyed by everyone through this transformative, learning experience. Amongst the many martial arts schools in the Conifer area, the Colorado Taekwondo Institute (CTI) strives to provide its students with this transformative experience beyond simply learning how to defend oneself. For anyone interested in martial arts in the Conifer area, the CTI is a great option due to its commitment to developing its students into life-long leaders through educational excellence and martial arts traditions through its instruction of Moo Sul Kwan Taekwondo.

Located off of Highway 285, the Conifer CTI Campus serves members living in the foothills of West Denver such as the Conifer, Aspen Park, Bailey, and Evergreen communities. This campus teaches Moo Sul Kwan Taekwondo to students of all ages from tigers (ages 2-5) to adults (18+), with instructors providing their students with the best experience that combines physical and mental fitness. All age levels can exercise their physical and mental health by working out at the Conifer Colorado Taekwondo Institute 2-3 times per week through the instruction of self-defense techniques and Korean culture, respectively.

This Conifer martial arts school has diligently crafted its classes to work with students of all ages, ensuring an impact on students living various lifestyles and at different tracks of life. Students aged 2-5 are able to learn the concept of motor skills early on through Moo Sul Kwan Taekwondo, channeling their pent-up energy into punching, kicking, and yelling. Classes at the Conifer campus also teach discipline to these tiger students as they learn how to respect others at a young age and apply their knowledge to the many areas of life they need to navigate. With youth classes for students aged 5-12, Taekwondo further expands on these elements of self-defense and discipline by helping students utilize the lessons outside the classroom and into the real world. Discipline can be applied in areas of life such as school and home, leading students towards a path of success in their education and future.  Teenage and adult students, through Taekwondo, recognize the value of educational excellence as they traverse paths to mature, grow, and build up their self-esteem. Taekwondo classes are a perfect way to relieve stress at the end of the day, along with learning how to manage anger and establish self-confidence in all situations of life. No matter what stage you are in life, it’s never too late to start classes at the Colorado Taekwondo Institute as there will be physical, mental and spiritual benefits from the martial art.

The values of the Conifer martial arts school shine through against competitors in the surrounding area. Serving Colorado since 1983, the CTI has been dedicated to providing educational excellence to students of all ages and has proven to take care of its students through every class in the last 40 years. No matter what day it may be, everyone is welcome to walk through the doors of the Conifer CTI to be welcomed by a CTI instructor to promote a good atmosphere for all.
